Today is the Capitan’s Bday, the original plan was to be in Colombia, just arriving a day or two before to be able to have the whole colombian family in Cartagena celebrating not only our arrival to Colombia but also one more year of the captain!! And of course, another couple of thousands miles sailed!! But things don’t always go as planned. So instead, we are in Portsmouth, Dominica with a full curfew for the day, which means we can’t go out of the boat during the whole day.

I still had all the intention to make sure it was a special day for the “birthday boy”. I decorated the boat a little bit for the occasion so as soon as he woke up he could see a nice banner “Feliz Cumpleaños”. We also had a Zoom call with the french family the day before. Everybody was confined to their houses so it was really easy to connect with Toulouse, La Ciotat and Paris.
It was a nice sunny day and we took it very easy no repairs, no work just relaxed a bit of reading, swimming around the boat, watching movies and of course eating some great food. We still have a few treasures from different places and today was a perfect occasion to enjoy them.
There is a French saying: “ si les Français restent parmi les gens les plus fréquentables et les moins malheureux, c’est en partie parce qu’ils savent se rendre heureux deux fois par jour avec un plaisir auquel ils sont extrêmement attentifs ”
Which translates: ” if French people remain among the most friendly and least unhappy people, it is partly because they know how to make themselves happy twice a day with a pleasure to which they are extremely attentive”

The celebrations continued on May 5, we have been here almost two months with another 40 boats, so we have made some friends. We had enough people to have a great party. However, COVID-19 restrictions still in place. Therefore, we are not allowed to make a gathering bigger than 10 people and the curfew starts at 6pm on a week day. Which means I could only organised a small ‘apero’ from 4pm to 6pm. It reminds me of the kid’s parties in Australia where they give you a start and end time of the party.
In the morning 8am on the radio, the jingle to start was the song of the Series “Happy Days”, Gerard who runs the radio did an excellent job in making the point of congratulated the Capitan, but didn’t make it public for the whole anchorage. Perfect!!!
I didn’t want to leave the celebration only to us so I invited couple of boats Nudi (Isabel< Santi, Sanni), JetLag (Gerald & Brigitte), Safari (Thierry & Conchi), total of 9 people including us. We had a couple of drinks, good company and a big chocolate cake to celebrate one more year of life!
