Start of the trip- words from the capitan

November 3, 2019

Obviously had to be with head winds planned for the day in between 2 fronts. Anyway, it is time to go as the marina of Badalona is definitely not a nice place to stay.

For this special day, most of my barcelona family joined us. Juan carlos, Liz an Joaquim. 1st sail for them except fo Juan Carlos that came for the sail test a month back.

With a start at 9 AM, we cut the amare to respect a tradition for grand departure. Very light winds, allows us to set the sails review a bit everything aound Happy days and set in nice chat around the boat… until one of the most marked wind line I have seen where we went from 2knots of wind to 20 knots. With a set 15kn, Happy Days could now spread her legs upwind at 5kn boat speed.

Everyone start enjoying the lack of engine noise, coffee, churros and each one with a turn  at the helm When things heated up a little, Liz took charg to sho us how it’s done.

As always sailing include some unexpected with the amure of the jib breaking up 30mn before our arrival in Sitges. No drama as we rolled it and finish with main and engine. A uick review in the marina show us a second strap on the sail on the amure point to st it up again. Better it happen now than in the middle of the atlantic.

At the marina, another set back as the mediteranean morring lines were crossed below the boat. When we lifted ne the other one went straight into the propeler. A diver check it from the marina and unfurled it in 5mn. What a start.

Sitges now for a couple of days as 30 knots winds will be the norm for the next couple of days.
